Consultations

Newborg Drainage and Landscaping Company (NDLC) has worked in the Northern Virginia area for over twenty years. We know the unique problems common to this area and have the knowledge, equipment and expertise to correct them.

We specialize in corrective grading, surface yard drains, subsurface yard drains, driveway and garage drains, curb discharge, retaining walls, french drains, and offer on-site consultation as well as consultation reports. We will work with you step by step to get to the bottom of your drainage problem.

Poor drainage symptoms are usually obvious. They may include water entry following rain, white powdery substance (efflorescence) on cinder blocks, silt at the cove (where the basement wall and floor meet), discolored floor molding and/or a strong musty smell.

Sump pumps only pump out water that already exists in the basement. The foundation and wall may actually weaken from water traveling through them to get to the pump. Water should be prevented from entering the foundation in the first place. Sump pumps also depend on electricity to operate, but they are often most needed during thunderstorms, when electric power is at risk.

Most water in basements comes from surface water, and should be corrected with regrading. According to the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, only one in 300 drainage problems result from ground water and may need to be corrected with a sump pump. NDLC works at solving the problems, not disguising them.

There is over a 90% chance that correcting roof runoff and grading will solve your problem. The experts at Newborg Drainage are experienced in redirecting water away from the problem area so that it will not end up in your basement.

CONSULTATION INFORMATION

Our goal is to correct the most likely cause of drainage problems in a cost-effective manner. Our experienced consultant will spend about an hour with you assessing the problem as if it were his own property. He will analyze the flow of surface water only. He does not investigate subsurface conditions. Our consultant will give you his honest opinion of the work that is necessary to correct the problem and a cost estimate. Most work that we do ranges from $1,000 to $4,000. In some cases additional work may be required to achieve a dry basement; however we do not believe that you should have to purchase those services until you know that they are really necessary. If additional work is required, we would be happy to give you a proposal to perform that work at an additional cost.

Consultations are provided Monday through Friday at 9:30am, 11:30am, and 1:30pm for a fee of $75.00. This fee is refunded to you should you decide to have us complete the work.
